GroupWise PDA Connect

Overview

The information below pertains to Novell ® GroupWise ® PDA Connect. GroupWise PDA Connect is designed to work on a Windows* computer synchronizing data between GroupWise and a PDA device. It is comprised of a synchronization engine and translators, which are used to seamlessly integrate Palm* and Pocket PCs* with GroupWise.

1.0 GroupWise PDA Connect Prerequisites

Before installing GroupWise PDA Connect:

• Ensure Palm HotSync* Manager is installed for the Palm OS 4.x or 5.x.
• Ensure that GroupWise version is 6.5.3 or higher is installed on your PC. To check your GroupWise version, open your GroupWise Client Program, then from the main menu select =>Help =>About GroupWise.
• Ensure that you are not synchronizing any of the following in Outlook or in Palm Desktop (i.e. e-mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, or notes).
• Optional - To increase the speed of synchronization, you should use the cleanup options in GroupWise to automatically delete or archive items that are older than 3 months. To set the Cleanup options in GroupWise, from the main menu select => Tools => Options =>Environment. Click the cleanup tab, then select the options you want, click OK, then click Close. Additionally, you may want to delete any unneeded items on your mobile device.
  

1.1 Items Needed for GroupWise PDA Connect

GroupWise needs the following three downloads from Novell:

• GroupWise 6.5.4 Client and Installation procedure If version is not 6.5.4 or higher (See 1.0 for instruction)
• MailPlus Client for PDA

1. Before installing MailPlus, ensure that Palm HotSync* Manager is installed for the Palm OS 4.x or 5.x.
2. Copy MailPlus.prc to your desktop (or somewhere on your local drive) by using the MailPlus Client link .
3. Use Windows to run the MailPlus Installation program.
4. In Windows, click => Start => Run => Browse, then locate the directory where you downloaded the MailPlus.prc file.
5. Select the MailPlus.prc file, then click =>OK to run the MailPlus Installation program.
6. When the PalmOne Quick Install window appears, select the User, then click =>OK.
7. Close the PalmOne Quick Install window. The MailPlus client will be installed the next time you synchronize your Palm.

• GroupWise PDA Connect file - Setup.exe Program

Select the file Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions below to download the file into a temporary directory.

1. Copy Setup.exe into a directory at the root of your local drive Setup Program Link .
2. Continue with Section 1.2 Installing GroupWise PDA Connect .

1.2 Installing GroupWise PDA Connect

Use Windows to run the GroupWise PDA Connect Installation program (setup.exe).

1. In Windows, click =>Start => Run => Browse, then locate the directory where you extracted the Setup.exe file.
2. Select the setup.exe file, then click OK to run the GroupWise PDA Connect Installation program.
3. When the Welcome page is displayed, click Next.
4. Click Yes to agree to the software license agreement.
5. Click Next to except Destination Location
6. Select your PDA device Palm OS then click Next.
7. Select either Single PC or Multiple PCs, then click Next twice.
8. Select Finish

• Load Hotsync Manager (refer to prerequisites for Palm Desktop)
• With a Palm OS device, you must first run and configure GroupWise PDA Connect icon, and then synchronize on your PC (after connecting the PDA) and follow prompt to synchronizing the device.
